Sorry
to toot my own horn here a bit, but I am rather proud of what I
accomplished as a nontraditional college student. At the AA level, where I
graduated with
honors and received the Founding Scholars' Award, I was a member and
president of Phi
Theta Kappa, the Honors
Society. I also received a
Bachelor's Degree,
a Master's Degree,
and a Paralegal Certificate (1997
and 2000)
from the Legal
Studies Program at the
University of Illinois at Springfield, where I also graduated with
honors. I was
the Graduate Assistant for the Legal Studies Program for one year, awarded
a GPSI Internship with the State of Illinois for one year, and the
Graduate
Marshal for the graduate program. As a result of my education, I specialize in the substantive areas of law. My expertise includes Family, Constitutional, and Municipal Law. However, I am more than qualified to assist in other areas as well. With my knowledge, background, and expertise in the substantive areas of law, and with my legal research, analysis, and writing skills, so many people have told me that I should be an attorney. But, I truly enjoy and take great pride in my work behind the scenes as a paralegal. As one attorney friend of mine said, I get to do all of the fun stuff. I am also quite proud of what I have accomplished, and continue to accomplish, as a substantive paralegal. I have been working as a substantive paralegal for a non-profit organization since March of 1999. Among other things, I research, analyze, and write amicus briefs, legal advisory opinions, a monthly Legal Q & A column, and a monthly newsletter on relevant Court and Attorney General opinions. I have assisted approximately 1,200 attorneys State-wide, and I have been integral with helping to set State-wide policies. I also created, structured, and continue to maintain the Legal Department's website. Feel free to download my resume (MSWord document) and/or e-mail me with any questions. |
